Monday 5th June - walk **** Circuit of Christchurch Park in Ipswich -
Cloudy.
After two full-on days windsurfing covering 60 miles on my fin board on a
pretty lumpy North Sea I had the day off for a rest which left Mag and I
free to have a day out:) We agreed to visit my Dad before taking a picnic
to Christchurch Park in Ipswich to see if we could see a family of owls
recently hatched up an Oak near Mabels tree ? she was an owl from a few
years again which became famous for sitting in a large hole:) Managed my
exercises indoors again as the sunshine from the weekend has disappeared
before setting off for Ipswich around 11.30 and had a really good time with
my Dad who was on top form and looked pretty fit for a 93 year old who had
got up early this morning to take his niece to Gatwick airport luckily my
sister drove:) We arrived at the park at 1.45 starving and were lucky to
park near the entrance in Westerfield Road walking along to Mabel?s tree
marked by a wood carving not sure where the family of owls were nesting,, a
couple of other families were also looking! We discovered in was in an oak
tree closer to the road but spent 15 minutes looking with no luck before
walking down past the small lake to find a bench surrounded by Purple
Rhododendron and were quickly joined by several squirrels keen to share our
lunch, sadly we had forgotten to take our bag of peanuts so were
disappointed :( We then walked on past the tennis courts and through the
more formal section near Ipswich School before going down to the lake with
several young geese and a couple of pairs of posing Mandarin ducks, then
past the large round pond with the fountain going checking to see if we
could see the owls, again no luck before heading for home for a welcome
cuppa.
I was then pleased to see the lovely Chris Page on ITV?s About Anglia had
used a pic of mine on the midday forecast featuring two Felixstowe
windsurfers, sadly it did not make it to the evening programme but he used
a pic of the strawberry moon I took last Saturday, so two pics in one day
on the TV ? result:)
